While designing the striking trapezoidal B-Buzz Dynasty, the latest addition to the house’s popular B-Buzz line of luxury leather bags, Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing was directly inspired by one remarkable strand of the Balmain DNA: a fascination with l’art du voyage.

Obviously, Olivier Rousteing’s runways have long celebrated Pierre Balmain’s legendary “New French Style,” with Rousteing consistently highlighting the sharp cuts, precise tailoring and impressive volumes that evidence the house founder’s early training as an architect. But a rich archive filled with extraordinary silhouettes and embellishments is not the only legacy of Monsieur Balmain that Rousteing draws upon. His offerings also continually riff on the distinctive attitude that has long set the house apart—often through a reliance on references to travel.

Olivier Rousteing’s new B-Buzz Dynasty clearly echoes those same standards, spirit and construction, with the designer channeling the unmistakable lines of structured vintage travel vanities for his new line of bags. The connection to the house’s heritage is made even more evident by the addition of a series of details more commonly associated with classic French luxury travel pieces, including edges bordered with finishing studs, lambskin lining, a name plate, a vanity mirror and a unique B-turn lock.
