Balmain's Composition For Spring

If Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E Minor hadn’t already grabbed the title, Olivier Rousteing says he might have named his Balmain Spring 2023 collection “The New World Symphony,” since it reflects today’s diverse, inclusive and powerful new universe, where rebirth and fresh possibilities are always possible.
The summer 2023 collection is heavily inspired by two main themes, the Renaissance artistic movement through paintings references, and the Earth in its raw and natural aspect. Silhouettes are conceived to be played either in total look or mix and match by integrating prints to plain fabrics, and by introducing soft pieces to tailored garments.
SKY THEME
Olivier Rousteing defines its collection around 2 themes, the renaissance as artistic movement, with numerous references to sky paintings, and the renaissance as the rebirth with the use of natural materials and earthy colours. The themes expose the duality between sky and earth, between bright and dark.

And, as we all learned in school, the greatest geniuses of the Renaissance—those true “Renaissance Men”—managed to meld together radical advances in science with rediscoveries of abandoned classical wisdom to fundamentally transform their age with completely new ways of thinking and creating”
This part of the collection is composed by printed pieces and pastel coloured garments. Olivier and his team browsed parisian museums to develop exclusive prints and patterns mixing famous paintings & balmain originals.
EARTH THEME
This second half of the collection answers the question of renaissance as a rebirth, and how to manufacture clothes with only natural raw materials. If our civilization had to rebirth now with nothing excepting our natural environment, how could we dress ? How could we coexist with nature ? This quest is expressed on the show with spectacular designs made of raffia, woods, or dry leaves. it is traduced in the collection through linen fabrics, cords, virgin wool or canvas, technics as braiding, weaving, as well as earthy tones and burnt effects.
The second part of the collection echoes the earthy inspiration with natural colors around browns shades. Asymmetric styles with cuts and cords are also strong details of the theme.

FIRE THEME
The closing remains in all mind with the fire printed garments. From silk to velvet, this last pattern declines itself on balmain iconic pieces and seasonal shapes.
