Balmain Unveils The House’s Main Lab Collection

Those in the know are already familiar with the address: 44 rue François Premier, the location of the house’s legendary flagship, set in the heart of Paris’ legendary “Golden Triangle. That’s the spot where Pierre Balmain first wowed the post-war fashion world with his audacious “New French Style,” almost 80 years ago. And the impressive, pared-back lines of the new Main Lab offerings make very clear that the house continues its dedication to the inventive melding together of unexpected fabrics, cuts and silhouettes, in order to create fresh and surprising designs."

The inspiration behind this new collection is just as easy to pinpoint. Each item within this comprehensive men’s wardrobe offering builds directly upon the singular, sleekly aerodynamic silhouette of Balmain’s best-selling luxury sneaker, the Unicorn.
That same fresh outlook can be recognized in every one of Olivier Rousteing’s new Main Lab designs. The minimal spirit is reflected in the sharp cuts, bold graphics, and a palette that’s been reduced to the barest essentials of black and white. While color may be condensed, texture is emphasized, with matte, reflective and tactile fabrics playing directly off each other. Balmain’s storied precise Parisian tailoring is complemented by the many relaxed sportswear fits in jersey and fleece. As one would expect for a collection inspired by the Unicorn, the range also holds new eye-catching all-black and black-and-white spins on that special sneaker.

The global launch takes place on January 12th, with the collection opening at 17 Balmain boutiques in the Americas, Europe and Asia, as well as on Balmain.com.
Special Main Lab shop-in-shops will be created inside the Balmain South Coast Plaza and Rue Saint Honoré flagships.
